ALL ABOUT ME!

Hi there! If you are reading this, then you are about to learn a little more about me.

My name is Alyssa Hamilton and I am a second-year teacher here at Wake Forest Middle School. I am also a newer resident of North Carolina! Let me start from the beginning...

I grew up in a small town in south-central PA called Waynesboro. There, I developed a passion for students with disabilities. I chose my career path as a Special Education Teacher during my senior year of high school when I was given the opportunity to intern in a multiple disabilities classroom. I had the opportunity to further my education at Messiah College, a small private school right outside of Harrisburg, PA.

At Messiah I was in placements more than I was in the classroom, which was amazing. I got to see multiple different classrooms, both general education and special education. The classroom that captured my heart was during my student teaching. I was placed in what we call "learning support" where I co-taught in the mornings, math and ELA and then did pull out in the afternoons. This position worked perfectly for me!

Also while I was at Messiah I was also given the opportunity to play softball. It taught me a lot about myself, how to serve others, and be a leader. I am excited to be able to put this into action as a teacher and as a softball coach. (while I am at Wake Forest Middle, I am also coaching softball & I am so excited!)

You may be wondering how I got from PA all the way to NC...

Well, in April of 2018 as I began looking for jobs, so did my dad. He interviewed for a position in Garner, NC and said, why dont you apply for a teaching job just incase. I searched around and applied in Wake Co. My dad got the job and began driving down here every other week starting at the end of May. The week of graduation, Dr. Bradford and I did a skype interview, then I came to tour the school and chat some more in June. That week I was offered a job, and at the end of July my entire family packed up and moved! It has been amazing so far, definitely a little warmer than PA, but I am loving every minute of it!

Seniorz

I am so excited to work alongside some amazing teachers and families!

&

I absolutely cannot wait to see the growth and love for learning develop in each of my students over their 6th grade school year.
